What is a UFH Manifold Control Pack?

In a water underfloor heating system, the boiler or heat pump delivers water at a temperature that is typically much higher than what the underfloor heating circuits can safely accept. Central heating systems run at 70–80°C; underfloor heating requires water at 30–60°C maximum, with many systems operating most efficiently at 35–45°C for the majority of the heating season. Without temperature regulation, excessively hot water running through underfloor circuits can damage flooring, cause discomfort, and waste energy.

The manifold control pack is the device that blends boiler-temperature water with cooler return water from the circuits — using the UFCH mixing valve — to produce the correct flow temperature for the underfloor system. The EUP pump then circulates this correctly-tempered water through all the circuits connected to the manifold, via the flow meters on each port. The entire assembly sits between the boiler supply and the underfloor manifold, and is a required component of every Polypipe stainless steel manifold installation.

Key Features & Benefits

🔧 Pre-Fabricated — Ready to InstallThe UFHSPP1 arrives factory-assembled. It bolts directly to Polypipe stainless steel manifolds with 210mm port centres — no fabrication or bespoke pipework required. This significantly reduces installation time compared to sourcing and assembling pump, valve, and fittings individually.
🌡️ UFCH Mixing Valve — Precise Temperature ControlThe included UFCH thermostatic mixing valve blends high-temperature boiler flow with cooler circuit return water to maintain the correct underfloor heating flow temperature. Set between 30°C and 60°C depending on floor construction and covering. Prevents overheating of sensitive floor finishes such as engineered timber and LVT.
⚡ A-Rated EUP Pump — Energy Efficient CirculationThe pack includes an A-rated, energy-efficient EUP circulator pump — compliant with EU ErP (Energy Related Products) directive requirements. An A-rated pump consumes significantly less electricity than older D or E-rated models, reducing running costs over the life of the heating system. The pump drives heated water through all manifold circuits at the correct pressure and flow rate.
🔩 Complete Fittings IncludedPump elbow, bends, and all adaptors needed to connect the control pack to the stainless steel manifold assembly are included in the pack. Compatible UFH165 isolation valves (sold separately) allow the control pack to be isolated from the manifold for servicing without draining the entire system.
🏗️ Stainless Steel CompatibilityThe UFHSPP1 is designed and supplied exclusively for use with Polypipe's stainless steel push-fit manifold range (PB12752 through PB12761 and the UFH12xxx EC EuroCone series). It is not suitable for use with Polypipe's plastic manifold range — use the appropriate plastic manifold control pack for those installations.
📋 Required for System CommissioningFor Polypipe stainless steel manifold installations, the control pack is a required system component. It is included in house pack and zone pack quotations. If you are building up a system from individual components — manifold, isolation valves, control pack, room stats — the UFHSPP1 is the control pack to specify.

What's in the Pack

  • EUP A-rated circulator pump
  • UFCH thermostatic mixing valve (blends flow temperature to 30–60°C)
  • Pump elbow connection
  • All bends and adaptors for connection to Polypipe stainless steel manifolds

Sold separately: UFH165 stainless steel isolation valves (1" pair, required) and UFH170 manifold adaptors (1"F swivel × 22mm compression, required for 22mm pipework connections). See related products in this range.

System Compatibility

⚠️ Stainless Steel Manifolds Only

The UFHSPP1 is designed exclusively for use with Polypipe stainless steel manifolds — including the push-fit PB127xx series and the EuroCone UFH127xxEC series. It is not compatible with Polypipe's plastic manifold range (PB123xx series). For plastic manifold installations, specify the appropriate plastic manifold control pack instead. If you are unsure which manifold type your system uses, check the manifold body — stainless steel manifolds are silver/brushed metal in appearance; plastic manifolds are typically grey or white.

Installation Overview

The UFHSPP1 bolts directly to the assembled stainless steel manifold. The sequence for a complete manifold assembly is as follows: fix the manifold(s) to the wall using the included bracket; attach the UFH165 isolation valves to the flow and return manifold ends; connect the UFHSPP1 control pack to the isolation valves; connect 22mm pipework from the boiler to the inlet connections using UFH170 adaptors if required. Vent the pump and manifold circuits thoroughly before energising. Set the mixing valve to the lowest temperature initially and increase in 5°C increments over the first few days of operation when commissioning solid floor systems — this allows screeded floors to warm up gradually without cracking. For other floor types, set the mixing valve to the system design temperature directly.

💡 Commissioning Tip — Solid Floors

If commissioning a solid floor (screeded) system, do not run the system at full temperature immediately. Set the mixing valve to minimum on day 1 and increase by 5°C per day until the system reaches design temperature. This prevents thermal shock cracking in the screed. For all other floor types — overlay, suspended timber, low-profile systems — the system can be run at design temperature from first start-up, after ensuring all air has been fully purged from the circuits.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need isolation valves as well, or are they included?

Isolation valves are not included in the UFHSPP1 pack and must be ordered separately. For stainless steel manifold systems, specify UFH165 — the Polypipe stainless steel 1" isolation valve pair. These are fitted between the manifold and the control pack and allow the control pack to be isolated for servicing. Without isolation valves, the entire system would need to be drained to remove the control pack.

What adaptors do I need to connect the control pack to the boiler pipework?

If your boiler flow and return are in 22mm pipework — as is standard for most domestic systems — you will need the UFH170 manifold adaptor pair (1" female swivel × 22mm compression), also sold separately. These adapt the 1" BSP connections on the isolation valves to 22mm compression for connection to copper or barrier pipe flow and return mains.

Can I use this control pack with a plastic Polypipe manifold?

No. The UFHSPP1 is designed exclusively for stainless steel manifolds. The port spacing, connection geometry, and materials are specific to the stainless steel manifold range. Polypipe produces a separate control pack for use with their plastic manifold range — please select the correct product for your manifold type.

What temperature should I set the mixing valve to?

The correct setting depends on your floor construction and floor covering. As a general guide: solid screeded floors with tiles — 45–50°C; solid screeded floors with engineered timber or LVT — 35–40°C; overlay and low-profile systems — 45–55°C; suspended timber systems — 45–55°C. Always verify with your UFH system design documentation. For solid floors, start at the minimum setting and increase by 5°C per day during the first week of operation.

Is the UFHSPP1 the same as the PB970055?

Yes — the UFHSPP1 is the current product code and directly replaces the previous PB970055. The function, specification, and compatibility are the same. If you are replacing or matching a PB970055, the UFHSPP1 is the correct current replacement.

🔗 Complete the manifold assembly: The UFHSPP1 control pack is typically ordered alongside the stainless steel manifold (PB127xx or UFH127xxEC series), UFH165 isolation valves (1" pair), and UFH170 manifold adaptors (1"F × 22mm, pair). For zone valve control, Polypipe zone valves connect to the flow pipework downstream of the control pack.
